ABOUT THIS TREATMENT
A scalp biopsy is a minor medical procedure used to diagnose various hair and scalp conditions, such as hair loss, infections, or dermatological disorders. During the procedure, a small sample of skin or hair follicle is taken from the scalp for detailed examination. This helps to pinpoint the cause of issues like alopecia, psoriasis, or other scalp conditions.
Your scalp biopsy will be carefully performed by Dr V, a GMC-registered surgeon, ensuring the highest standards of safety and precision. We oversee every aspect of the procedure, from the initial consultation to the final diagnosis, providing expert care throughout your journey.
You may be asked to stop certain medications, such as blood thinners, prior to the biopsy.
Ensure your scalp is clean, and avoid applying hair products on the day of the procedure.
The biopsy site may feel tender for a few days, and a small scab will form where the sample was taken.
Keep the area clean and dry to promote healing and prevent infection.
Results are typically available within 1–2 weeks, and a follow-up consultation will be arranged to discuss the findings and treatment options.
The procedure is quick, typically taking 20 minutes or less. A local anaesthetic is used to ensure minimal discomfort during the biopsy.
Clear aftercare instructions will be provided to ensure proper healing. Our team is always available to support you with any post-procedure concerns or questions.
